“The sea is everything, It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all side.” – Jules Verne.
By the sea, not on the sea nor indeed in the sea. By the sea the breeze feels cool and, depending where we are, smells manifestly of freshness and freedom.
Being by the sea right now, watching the seagulls gliding gracefully in the sky, listening to the waves gently break against the shore, I feel reconnected to nature. No computer, phone or camera. Just a notepad and pencil, and a mind empty of everything beyond the pleasure of being by the sea.
I imagine we all have a special place where we can turn to for reflection and a rest. This place, for me, is pretty much available anywhere. It’s by the sea, whatever the sea in question may be.
Just before setting the pencil down, let me thank you for sharing a few moments of your time with me here today, by the sea.
