End of the railway line

At a certain point we all reach the end of the line. It might be we conclude, hopefully successfully, an assignment at work or a do-it-yourself project at home.

The end of the line may refer in a sense to the achievement of a professional or personal goal. No matter the circumstances, getting to the end of the line involves bringing an activity or way of being to a stop.

The end of the line is in reality the starting point for us to continue moving forward, albeit with another undertaking. In all probability, the energy given over to the old activity will be transferred to a new endeavour.

Noticing mindfully the brief moment of stillness at the end of the line, just prior to setting off again, is similar to acknowledging the slight pause between each ‘Out breath’ and ‘In breath’. It lasts only a fraction of a second, yet it is there, confirming the individuality of each moment.

Each effort, just as each breath, forms a crucial point of our being and getting to the end of the line of one allows us to go ahead with another one.

In closing, and as you no doubt know, The end of the line is the title of a song performed beautifully by Nina Simone, but that as the saying goes, is another matter.
