Stop wanting it done right now.

Instances of Haiku

January 5, 2021

Instances of Haiku – Haiku being a form of poetry originating in Japan, composed of seventeen syllables set out in three lines of five, seven and five syllables each – brings together 92 poems created for my Instagram account @bgdtcoaching during the period May 2020 – December 2020.

Despite the trials and challenges of 2020, Instagram proved to be a valuable source of creativity, especially concerning Haiku. Check out @pond.plop, @s.i.l.v.i.e.s and @wadesdailyhaiku, for example.

Perhaps deserving now of a wider audience beyond Instagram, Instances of Haiku is a book of reflection. It may encourage us to ponder various aspects of life, seeing them from a new perspective.

In any case, I hope you at least enjoy the words set out in these poems.

Happy Reading!

Brian.

Reading the signs correctly

December 31, 2020

Reading the signs correctly, it appears we’ve reached the end of the year, and what a year it has been.

Others may look back on 2020 and offer their opinions to its impact. Right now, let’s spend a few minutes reflecting on where we are at this moment.

Reading the signs correctly, we can connect with the present and, regardless of our physical location, understand here is the starting point for all subsequent efforts and, ideally, achievements.

Inhale the new, exhale the old and enjoy the opportunities 2021 offers us.

Kindest regards, many thanks for your ongoing support and Happy New Year.

How excited are you by today?

December 20, 2020

Following on from the previous post here, ‘What’s your daily call to action?’, let me ask you another key question: ‘How excited are you by today?

If the quarter, month and week have been planned well, then it is likely today will be filled with tasks and actions designed to ensure you are heading in the desired direction.

Perhaps you have already hit your targets for 2020 and are in ‘Holiday mode’. If so, answering ‘How excited are you by today?’ is easy as it could well be filled with events, activities and the like programmed to provide maximum enjoyment.

But what happens when the response to ‘How excited are you by today?’ is “Not very enthusiastic at all about today or indeed any day”?

In these instances, giving ourselves tiny assignments to complete in a short space of time might be a way to establish the habit of ‘reaching our goals’. From this beginning, we can appreciate that being excited about subsequent ‘todays’ is not impossible after all.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on the inquiry ‘How excited are you by today?

Engaging with our audience

December 13, 2020

Engaging with our audience to the best of our ability is an option we always have, regardless of our job, role or employment status.

There are few occasions we work in isolation. At some stage of a project or endeavour, we might be interacting with stakeholders, engaging with our audience. Those making up ‘our audience’ could be colleagues, clients, suppliers, some folk of authority or the general public at large.

Ensuring we are engaging with our audience in an open fashion puts them, and us, at ease in addition to creating the basis for a mutually enjoyable experience.

On the other hand, engaging with our audience with indifference sets us up to have our efforts judged through critical and even hostile eyes. How we go about engaging with our audience remains, as ever, ours to decide, no?
