Reflections – Working today

Maybe it’s because I am a Capricorn (not that I tend to think too much about such matters) and possibly stuck in my ways.

You may even consider me pretty daft, but I still, on the whole,  believe in people.

Recently a long-term business associate suggested I should categorically forget the idea of honesty as, according to this person, people working today operate solely on the basis of written agreements.

Perhaps indeed some people choose to believe nothing said in a meeting, formally or informally, until signed documentation substantiates the words.

Personally I find the perspective sad, and in no way a positive development leading towards improved collaboration in the workplace.

Why, I wonder, if we can’t believe anything a person says, are we contemplating working with him or her in the first place?

Of course contracts are important, and in terms of paperwork I see no reason for being anything less than exact. However, people are at the heart of my work and so yes, I still believe the majority of people are honest and true to their word.

Thanks for reading this. If you’d like to offer your input on this question of working today, please leave a comment below.

Kindest regards.

Brian.
